William Cline (1820-1886), Private, 16th Virginia Cavalry, Company I, Confederate States of America. William Cline enlisted in the 16th Virginia Cavalry in March, 1863 and saw action during the Gettysburg Campaign where he was injured with gunshot wounds. He spent some time in Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond and returned home to Tazewell County, Virginia sometime thereafter.
Nearly fifty of William Cline Johnson's lineal and collateral descendants attended his Headstone Dedication on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Many thanks to all of those who were able to make it, some on very short notice. A special thanks to Captain Roger Lester, Commander of the 22nd Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. and his troops and also members of the 26th Virginia Infantry. Also a special thanks to Elder Farley Beavers of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church for his prayers and special words on behalf of Sophia Robinett Cline Johnson.
